Light controls edge functional groups to enhance membrane permeability

Functionalized membranes have high potential value in a broad range of practical applications, and the functional groups at membrane edge play vital role permeability membranes. Here, based on an edge-functionalized graphene oxide (GO) model, we theoretically report that high-frequency terahertz stimulation frequency near 44.0 THz can significantly enhance water by nearly five times. Its mechanism was revealed to be amplified C-O stretching suppressed other vibration modes groups. As result, modulation brings down energy barricade allows molecules penetrate GO more easily. These findings provide new perspective for enhancing modulating particular such as carboxyl membrane.
